Nawazuddin Siddiqui isn't happy as films like Animal are being appreciated and the Sacred Games star is worried about the future of Bollywood
After Ranbir Kapoor's Animal success at the box office, a significant discourse surrounds the future of Bollywood. Javed Akhtar recently deemed Animal's success perilous, criticising Sandeep Reddy Vanga for creating a film perceived as misogynistic. Amidst the ongoing debate regarding the Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, Nawazuddin Siddiqui voiced his apprehensions about the future of Bollywood. Voicing concerns about the prevailing trend in Bollywood films, the Babumoshai Bandookbaaz actor expressed, "We see the same films being made, merely with different actors, costumes, and makeup. I'm genuinely pessimistic about the future. While many remain optimistic, it's evident that audiences prefer a specific type of film, which is fine—they should. However, the survival of diverse cinema is crucial, and unfortunately, that isn't happening." Nawaz shared these thoughts with Humans of Bombay when discussing the disparities between 90's cinema and the present. Nawazuddin Siddiqui clarified that his concerns weren't directed towards commercial films, stating, "I am not talking about commercial cinema; millions of people enjoy it, and I do too. However, the survival of the other kind of cinema is at risk today. It will require a considerable amount of time. In the past, both types of cinema coexisted, but that's no longer the case."
